Redbacks Go 2-1 at the 2007 USAFL National Tournament!! The weekend of Oct 13-14th was the 10th Anniversary of the United States Australian Football League's National Tournament. The Redbacks traveled to Louisville Kentucky with a dedicated 14 players, and we could not be more pleased at their performance.
Details coming shortly, but the Redbacks lost Game One to a combined Las Vegas/New York squad. Our guys got off to a slow start to a team that consisted of last year's Nationals Division 3 winner (Las Vegas) combined with extra players from Division 1 New York.
Game 2 had the Redbacks defeat Baton Rouge, ending Day 1 on a positive note. Game 3 was played on Sunday morning, and the Redbacks beat the squad from Kansas City.
We finished 2-1, and second in Pool A, which was won by Las Vegas/New York (who outscored their first two opponents 151-17).

As this is the 10th Anniversary of the USAFL National Tournament, we were asked to submit our "All-Decade Team" to USAFL to be published in a book to go along with this very special National Tournament.
Coach Trevor Stokes and Marc Karver who have been with the club since the beginning were given the special yet daunting task to choose this team. They used criteria such as games played, games traveled with team, skill level and finally contribution to the Redbacks as a club. They also applied the 50/50 USAFL rule to this team. 50% American, 50% Australian. Very difficult indeed. Here are the results:

Let give them all the props they deserve, as well as anyone who has ever came out and kicked the footy around with us - thank you. Of course, this is a list of All Decade Players as dictated by the USAFL, and certainly does not mean to overlook the many many players & supporters that helped make this club what it is today. We're tossing around ideas to try and recognize more people to be placed in the "Who Are The Florida Redbacks" section. Stay tuned! If you have ideas, let me know!
UNIVERSITY EXCHANGE...COMING SOON?

As some of you might recall, USF Student and current Redback Cameron Freeman was almost awarded the annual USAFL/Macquarie University scholarship for 2008 that would have seen Cameron travel to Sydney Australia to study a semester while playing on the Macquarie footy team. Unfortunately, this fell apart as Macquarie pulled several of their international footy scholarship.
The USAFL felt terrible about this and has quietly been working behind the scenes to try and make it right. I don't have many details at the moment, but I am told that USAFL has been in discussions with Edith Cowan University in Perth about trying to set up an exchange program between them and the University of South Florida. This could possibly mean that on a regular basis, a USF Redback player is allowed to spend a semester in Perth, while an Aussie student comes to USF. Very exciting indeed. We hope to find out more details in the coming weeks. Let's see the USF Flag Football club top that!
